ParticipantI had the second vehicle in a year kick the bucket today. One wasn’t completely unexpected. Got me wondering, what is a practical distance for commuting with a horse? My gut feeling is that a bike would be more practical, and that’s probably what I’m going to do, but I was wondering. We do have one car, but until this year both of us worked too far to not have two vehicles, I’m hoping to be working closer to home by the end of the year.

ParticipantBack in the day, many people in my town commuted ten miles to the Catholic church in a neighboring town.
I once commuted to a wood job about a mile from home. It became a challenge in the winter because there was no water on site, and water in jugs froze.
Not too many watering troughs and hitching posts these days.
