Well I finally took my newest haflinger out and started working with her tonight. I bought her last september and she will be two this spring. I never rush into anything but I figured it is time to get started. She was good when I put the harness on and while I was leading her around the yard. When I tried to get her circling to the left she showed me how stubborn she can be. It took a lot of coaxing but I got a few laps out of her. I am not one to use a whip on a horse but I do have enough Irish in me to be just a little more stubborn than her. She started jumping around once, lost her balance and down she went. She must be smart enough to realize that it didn’t get her anywhere because she didn’t try that again. She must have been plenty nervous the way the sweat was dripping off her because we were only out there about twenty minutes and most of the time she was just walking. Tomorrow night will be lesson number two.
