ParticipantIs it common practice to sand and varnish the lumber on a homemade Les Barden scoot?

ModeratorNo Michelle. You won’t need to sand it, and you shouldn’t coat it with anything. Some penetrating oil like Linseed. or even just waste motor oil mixed with diesel, will do a good job of preventing rot.

ParticipantThanks, they never looked varnished but I don’t have any construction credibility. Will pass info along. Leaving with the horses in the trailer tomorrow! Dodging snowflakes and not stopping till we’re most of the way through Kansas! Sub-zero temperatures I will take if they keep it high pressure and sunny!
