ModeratorThanks Donn for getting a reply in here. I am still swamped with other forestry work, so I haven’t really put together any substantial thoughts yet…. at least on paper.
However, here are a few links about the event;
“We are everyday folks that know that animal power is a proven technique that has many advantages for small scale farmers and loggers. This is not the easy way to do things. This is labor intensive, “hand crafted” natural resource management. This is not solely about production but about protection and improvement of our largest natural resource condition in this region – the forests.” Jason Rutledge

ModeratorThis awesome woods rig is made by Morgan Anderson in Europe…. Costs about $10,000 even before import. Scott Golden and I have talked with him about trying to find an imported to bring them to US, but nothing yet.
I post the pic for perspective and ideas.

ModeratorI am good with that. The posts I wanted to delete were failures for uploading pictures. Just made a mess of the forum with many attempts, but I understand why you don’t want people willy nilly deleting posts.
If you have a failed upload of a picture you should be able to edit a post and then try uploading the picture again. If you want some posts deleted you can send a PM to me or an other moderator to take care of for you.
More good reasons to get at least one moderator (with significant administrative powers) to host the site….. to be on here every day, evaluating posts and directly interacting with participants, to help clean up issues, and to give an active face to the site…. 🙂

ModeratorI will have a report…. I am swamped with other work, and have not had time to put into a clear review and forecast…..
I will say that it was a “heady” time…. up till 12am talking non-stop with thoughtful people about important issues, so I came home trying to set that aside for a bit because my brain was cramping.
I will share soon…. 😕

ModeratorNo Michelle. You won’t need to sand it, and you shouldn’t coat it with anything. Some penetrating oil like Linseed. or even just waste motor oil mixed with diesel, will do a good job of preventing rot.

ModeratorThis is a bigger horse, but just to illustrate how easily a single horse can handle a forecart. If the jack saddle is adjusted correctly even a small horse should be able to handle shaft weight with little problem….. After all, you expect them to easily carry a 150-200 pound person…. No cart will put that much weight on the jack saddle.
