ModeratorI have been thinking how I could get all you guys down to the farm school for a while and after the the dapnet meeting and the discussion of the field days and workshops spread out through the year, I thought we could host a logging weekend at the farm school. We have a bunkhouse that sleep 40+ with a kitchen. We could haul logs with a few teams to the sawmill and run it all weekend. Maybe it’s kind of a selfish idea, but I think it could be a good place to host a workshop. I don’t know how to organize it, but what do you think? Our website is http://www.farmschool.org

ParticipantBradley,
Thank for the offer, sounds like a good possibility. When in the winter would work for you? Post-holiday?

ParticipantI like the idea. Sounds like a great oppurtunity to get in the woods and learn some more skills.

ModeratorBradley,
It would be great if you could jot down some ideas and tell us more about your facility/accommodations. You can send them to Jean and we can start the ball rolling with our new BOD.
To anyone else with an idea/place for a smaller regional event, DAPNet is looking into holding more of these during the year between the larger NEAPFD events. Contact our Administrator Jean Cross with the details (jmnvt@yahoo.com), we are willing to help organize these types of events.

ModeratorMark, the second weekend in December maybe, because our programs will just be ending but there will still be staff and apprentices around. But whenever it works best for everybody. Thanks Carl and Ed for the enthusiasm, it would be pretty cool to have a couple of bobsleds going in line down to the sawmill. I’ll have to make sure to have a bunch down already. Erika, I will email Jean this weekend, let me know if there is anything else I can do to make it happen. We recently built a wood fired brick oven and we keep it going all week long, so we would definitely have pizza and good food, although it would be hard to compare to Janet Bailey’s cooking.

ParticipantI could come down second weekend of December, with a team and skid. I’ll trade moving logs for help putting new shoes on the skid. I’d love to check out your program anyway- looks great!

ParticipantI’d be willing to host an event here in Charlestown too. Plenty of space, plenty of wood to move either to sawmill or firewood pile. Is anybody interested in January 21 or 22, or both?
As to facilities I’ve 5 acre nearly flat field with windbreak where folks can park/ camp. 50 acre woodlot that could use some selective thinning, a foley bellsaw sawmill close to woodlot, and dedicated place to process firewood. I’ve access to freshwater for beast and man, as well as a dry barn w/ stall mats over concrete floor and covered areas to tack up.
I teach, but Jan 21, 22 is the weekend between semesters, and Monday is a logistics day, so I can take some time in the weekend to practice woodsman skills and finally meet some of you folks.
