ParticipantHave an opportunity to buy a 18 hp Yanmar Diesel and clutch assembly for $600 from my research it seems like a good price and a good motor. Has anyone here ever mounted one on a baler and or haybine and if so, how did it work? Just wondering
Thank you.

ParticipantHey George,
I think Donn Hewes mounted a 24HP (+/-) Honda engine on a forecart and ran a haybine and a baler with that. Might see what he felt about performance – I think it worked pretty well.

ParticipantI think Geoff hit the hp number…. Going by the reports I read for the 2010 field days George , 25hp seems to be the number for the balers..

KeymasterMost balers and haybines I have seen have been over 20 HP. My cart doesn’t seem to be working the motor very hard, so it is hard to say for sure what would happen with the 18HP.

ParticipantWell,
I bought the Yanmar so we shall see how it goes. It is currently set at about 17 “Fake HP”:D but after a little research I found that they can easily be turned up to 23-30. With the torque of the diesel and some gear reduction it should do the trick.
Snowing a bit here in Wisconsin, looks like spring is on hold for a few days.
Cheers
