Participanthunting season starts dawn tomorrow.
penny has been decorating the halters with blaze orange flagging. the horses look quite festive in their new garb.
this big doe has been visiting our back field every evening browsing on the spelt tips in our new sown field.
amazingly, the very moment that deer season starts, deer disappear. have never been able to figure out this phonomenon, but witness it every year. more news later. orange mitchOctober 29, 2010 at 5:23 pm #62899Marshall
ParticipantThat is why I started getting crop damage permits. Instead of hoping I see something during shotgun season I can just grab the 30-06 when it is nice outside. During the summer they don’t expect anyone to be hunting them in the summer so they just stand there.

Participantright you are. here in maine, dept. of inland fisheries stopped issueing permits, and just let you pop ’em for crop damage. give the warden a call after and he might come by or not. if you have to many they might suggest donating meat to the food kitchens.
i like the chase myself. i used to dust them off and scare them a little, until our border collie figured out what i was trying to do and took over for me. he is a little shot of greased lightning and runs for thepure joy of it, and you ought to see him with crows. a pure delight.October 31, 2010 at 3:13 pm #62902reb
ParticipantI started my season with a real nice buck in my scope, the same one I have been hunting for the last couple of years, and I blew the shot. Maybe next time, but truth be told I just love being in the woods.
Happy Hunting,
