ParticipantI have had teams for 25 years. What I am new at is running this computer! But fumbling around on it I found this forum and what a nice deal for people interested in draft animals. My wife and I have been married and farming 330 acres (with a tractor) for 33 years. We have mostly hay , pasture and CRP land . We have a daughter and a son (both married off) 50 mother cows (mostly Hereford) and 4 horses. We also own and operate an Upholstery and Saddle/Harness shop on the farm. My wife upholsters furniture (beautifully !)and I repair saddles, Harness and build custom Tack. Mostly I’m looking for places to find machinery and parts for our horse equipment.

It’s good to have more new folks here and some different perspectives are always welcome. As you’ve probably read, there are some interesting folks that post on here. Many people with great experience. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.June 13, 2010 at 4:08 pm #60754Big Horses

ParticipantWelcome Bill
know what you mean about horse machinery. Between the iron buyers and the people who use good pieces as yard art , not much left for those of us that still use it. I have started to design and built what I need. Built a three wheel for cart with a hydraulic 3 point hitch last winter(works okay but will have to tweak a couple of things this winter). Working on a ground drive PTO addition for future use.Welcome

SE MinnDan, you sound like a guy I need to talk to! Have you ever made a round bale unroller? One that I can pull with my team? I’m looking for something simple and light as my team is a pair of registered Paint mares and really aren’t made for pulling the big loads. Anybody got any plans for something like that? Thanks

ParticipantBill,
I spent about a year in Watertown, going to school for the second half of my aircraft mechanic’s license…that was in about ’84/85. Spent the year before in Fargo.

Never made a bale unroll-er, but that’s only because I haven’t needed one. I have thought of it from time to time and have an idea of what I want. Nothing down on paper just rolling around in my head with a bunch of other ideas. Usually design as I built. Keep in touch I’m sure we can get one made.Dan

BillHaha!! I’ve been to Flandrea! I lived in Arlington (technically the itty bitty town of Sinai, but address was Arlington). I lived on a working bison ranch there. I’m sure you’ve heard of it- Harmony Hills? I went to school at SDSU in Brookings and worked at Larson’s… and a short spell at 3M. I just recently moved back to Nebraska. Welcome former neighbor! 🙂
