ParticipantEvery time I go north now I stop at this roadside attraction, mainly to stretch my legs, plus they have a large parking lot and clean bathrooms. It has special meaning for me now that I am training oxen. I even have a Babe the Blue Ox coffee mug, corny I know, but I’m a sucker. I am always struck by two things first babe is tiny compared to Paul Bunyon, maybe they ran out of concrete and couldn’t make him to scale. And second they went to a lot of trouble to make him anatomically correct, well for a bull. I guess it make a better tourist attraction, I bet there are a lot of pictures of people with Babe and his well….
Anyhow this little pilgrimage has become routine for me as I go to Oregon for feed 4-5 times a year now and I always stop and think about how oxen do have a place in our country’s mythology, if you can call it that.
