Carl, a few folks had problems with my video when I embedded it in DAP, I think was OK when I also included just the hot link. That seemed to show up in the thread.

Normally, Tuesdays would be fine, but I have a board meeting at Tillers on the 22nd. I could do 6:30 to 7:30 on Sunday, or Monday would be fine, or Wednesday.

Thanks for putting this up. I can go through it at my own speed and think about it, good stuff.

Great video, Carl. Thanks. Stumps and logs make great camera holders. 😎

For me, it turns out that Sunday evenings are not always good, at least not at set and consistent times. I think that will not work this week, maybe 6:30 to 7:30 would be oK. I will check and let you know tonight.

Ed, good suggestions for agenda items. I wouldn’t mind setting up short conference calls, maybe one hour or less once a week for a few weeks to get everyone on the same page and develop a sense of where we want to go with developing the committee and related activities. I would like to get a sense of what others are thinking.

Mark, can you list the current committees and the members of those committees. Thanks.

These are good suggestions. I also keep a whistle in my shirt pocket in case I have to make some noise.

John, there are probably a number of things that might be useful, I was thinking specifically about rigging. Will and Abe both go over 2000 lbs, if one of them ever went down like that or got hung up in some way I would be hard pressed to move them or help them out. If I had my rigging and could get a 3 or 4 part line on them I might have a chance.

Yes, I agree. You can easily drive all day without saying a word and they will be very responsive to your position and movements. They seem to really feel that pressure and react reflexively. You have to work at voice commands and even with work there is a gradation of response. Will and Abe are more responsive to whoa when they have a load than without, and more responsive heading away from home than when going home. They are also more responsive when they like the nature of the command than when it is something they would rather not do. I have thought of taking time to get them to be responsive to voice commands to some precise and tight moves such as pivoting haw-to or gee-off when I am on a sled or stoneboat, but I have not gotten to it. I really prefer to just have them responsive to the work we do, that seems to be most rewarding to all of us. I loose patience with tricks and other fancy stuff.

That’s a bad feeling when something goes bad with the animals when you are back in the brush. I was thinking about this today when I was going out. I like to travel light and only take what I am pretty sure I will need, but in thinking about this it was clear to me that I would not have the things I would most likely want to get us out of a mess like that. Carrying some extra safety gear along is a bother but it is like using chainsaw safety gear. You rarely need it and hope you never do, but that one time could be a big one. I’ll have to think about this.

That is great, and she probably considered the opportunity and results to be well-worth the cost. This is also why it is important to have a pretty good handle on what your necessary hourly costs are. If the LO likes your work I suspect there could be a lot of these time and materials add-ons to extend the job you were hired to do.

Ed, I can not join a conf call this evening but Wed or Thurs should be OK, maybe 8 pm or so. This is a brush fire we have to put out but there are other issues for general discussion we have to sort out such as at what level of involvement is DAP going to be involved; sponsor, endorse, publicize, and what does that mean exactly regarding our comittment?

I am on the events committee and no, we have not met yet to the best of my knowledge. It would help if I had a list of event committee members and their contact information. I am not sure, thought, if this is an event committee responsibility. This seems like a broader policy issue that needs to be hashed out by the executive committee with input from other interested folks.
