These are good discussions we are having on here. Every one is making good points and I think that is a point in its self. There are certain things that will be adjusted for each region/ area we are working in. We are all going to be dealing with people with different incomes and budgets for these projects. Also each area will have there own attitudes about what we do. The more we can bounce ideas off of each other the better it is . We have the best product on the market by far and these discussions are going to help us all bring this product / service to the public. The more they know about use the more they will want use. ParticipantScott for what most of use want to do the machines would be the limiter not the drafts. There are some small forwarders and skidders that might be able to come close but at the price they sell for and to still fall short of the drafts it is not worth it. These small machines are as much as the big ones and even though they are small they are still to big for some of what I do. Taylor Johnson

ParticipantCarl I agree 100% and I do think this will be as good a tool for horse loggers as the public may be more so . I think most of us on this private board are in the same type of mind set as far as what we want to do for the forest and are costumers. I do think that there is so much to learn and so many ways to help each other , buy just setting up this board all of are tool boxes just got bigger and they will continue to . This is a great , great , tool this site is. We do have some limitations because of the draft animals but we do have a lot more advantages for the type of work that most of use have a desire to do as far as the forest goes. The type of horse work most of my family did for years was not what I do for the most part , they were mostly production volume cutting with horses. I don’t think that is what any of use want to do and I don’t think it is what is good for the land or the land owner as far as his /her land investment goes. Taylor Johnson

I have used some of the rope you are talking about and all the time thinking ” man I wish I would have had this running cable skidders . Sometimes I ran as high as eight chokers and by the end of the day you did not want to carry one more plus the wire though the finger or hand once in a wile was always nice LOL. Any ideas on getting apprentices out in the bush and working would be great and it is needed . I would like to here how you all handle your apprentices and the laws as far as insurance and what not goes. Lancek you said in WI a waver is all I would need to have an apprentice ? ParticipantBoys I have a lot of gears and most of them are forward LOL. I am just pumped about this is all and want it to all come together . Hey Scott I use that phrase to drive people nuts around me all the time LOL ( my wife loves to hear it ) . After the last year it is just nice to have some people talking about this stuff in a positive way that understand what is happening and like I said I am just a little pumped about the educational and marketing tool are group could become. I do know it will take time and I am really not worried about it to much I just want to see it all happen and I want to show every one what we can do. I have an idea floating around my head about marketing goods and the job we can do. I know we are all independent as can be but that is a unique thing to be marketed. Coming up with a good pitch to use in are broacher that we could all use would be a big help . I know a lady who makes things like this nation wide . Tools , techniques , and all is good but we have to sell are selves to be able to use these things . The thing is we do have a superior product to offer land owners but some how we are falling to market it correctly on a large scale. They should be beating down are doors for what we do. The little money they make by whacking there 40s and other acreage is not worth it when you take that stumpage check and stretch it out over the length of time that most people owner there land. so for most of the time for a few hundred or even a thousand a year there property is going to be a mess for at least 35 or 40 years. If you take that check and divide it up to how long it will take for the property to recover ( if it will ever be the same ) it gets smaller yet. I think that is the type of thing people have to see. I don’t care how green most people say they are the only green that matters to most are green backs in there pockets and that is a fact. So it is are job to show them the money and worth and are product ,, are selves and the job we do . Taylor Johnson- AuthorPosts
