The place where I found these things, an old farm with lots of other old farm equipment had a potato plow for sale. It had two wings which I assume were used for covering the seed potatoes after they were planted.

Good observation. I have some good white oak pieces in the barn and also some ash.

Here is the photo of the plow and the front part in question. The holes I am questioning are the vertical ones through the wood frame at the end. Now that I look at the photos I am guessing that the iron hook up part was a replacement that did not fit the two front holes so a third hole was added to make the attachment.
Their is also a picture shown of a walking cultivator I got in the same deal.

Mine are 20′ also which is kind of long for most of my driving, the slack gets in the way a lot. But the long lines are nice when I am behind the forecart hooking something up. I also have 10′ line extensions which buckle into the line ends for those times when I am loading the cart with wood etc and want to either keep them in my hand or easily accessable.

Would make a nice blank or blanks for some ox yokes.

What I tried today which may be the answer is I put them on a lead rope and unhooked them while walking in the area I wanted to release them in. This let them just continue on their own without having to tax their brains to decide how long to stand after I left the scene having the last command of whoa ringing in the ears.

My reins are a material called Beta and I like the feel of them. Their are different kinds of material used for synthetic harnesses. Mine are made of a cheap biothane materila and are nice from the maintenance stand point, just hose them off, no mildew problems.
I have a breast collar harness for one of my horses made of a synthetic material which I really like, it looks and feel just like leather. I don’t know what the material however other than it’s a Smuckers harness.

It’s fine, we don’t use it much as the donkeys have been taken over by my wife and she mostly rides them.

It’s not usually the big stuff like cars and nice houses and foreign holidays – most people serious about this life don’t value things like that anyway, the two ideas don’t really go together.

For me it’s the little things – I could really do with a haircut, but there’s always something more important that what little money we have goes on. Maybe a haircut isn’t important to you, but I’m a girl and I like my long blonde hair to look nice 😛

I could also do with a hat for winter, last year’s has gone walkabout…I knwo the one I want, but I can’t afford it so I’m making do with a piece of frabric wrappen around my head to at least keep the wind off my ears. Likewise boots – my rigger’s boots have holes in, but I don’t really have the money for a new pair, I have shorter, good boots but need someting that goes higher up the leg – gaiters would solve it but see the answers above….

With that much motivation and willingness to sacrifice you are bound to succeed. Good for you, hang in there.

    Hi Robert

We have a “D” ring harness for our 12 hand donkey. Does your harness maker need dimensions or what they look like in order to put one together? Because the dimensions should come from your animal. Les Bardon has a great video out which is all about the “D” ring harness and I think any experienced harness maker could make one from what is shown on the the video plus the animal measurements. I had mine custom made but the maker is now retired.
