ParticipantYeah, it just seems to be one of those things…life happens. I’ve got 4 cancellations an/or maybes…I just might be the only one there, but I’ll have Jenny-Mae’s new harness and driving bit by then, and I’ma gonna have fun usin’ it!

ParticipantGoogle Maps shows Hwy 55 – 95 route is 182 miles, takes 4 hours. Taking hwy 95 (passing hwy 55) is 215 miles, 4 hours 10 minutes. I’ve never made it in less than 5 hours in my old trucks. That’s why I never pay attention to what people say on how many hours…their vehicles seem capable of a lot more speed than anything I can afford!
I’ll look for ya Sunday!
{How many people are you bringing with?}Robert MoonShadow
ParticipantI’d like to get an approximate head count on who all’s coming; for how many days; and what animals/equipment are being brought.

ParticipantThanks…that’s good to know – I think I know where there’s one tucked away in the brush. What type is that in your photo? I don’t know the different types…

ParticipantHow heavy and how much draft are we talking, here? Could a team or a 3-abreast of lg. standard donkeys handle it?

ParticipantWhen I first adopted my dog Nellie, she was very timid and scared. I had her on a leash, while hiking up a trail to camp to do trailwork. I was leading the big draft/pack mule Ellie. Nellie would walk to the end of the leash, feel pressure, and lay down. I’d tap her w/ my foot in mid-stride, and say “Go, Nellie!”. She’d take off at a scared run, Ellie mule would hear “Whoa, Ellie!” and 1600 lb.s of red mule would come to an instant stop. After about the 4th time of having my sockets dislocated, I renamed ‘Nellie’ to ‘Nell’. It was now ‘Git along, Nell!”. Knuckles still drag on the ground, though.

ParticipantNice job! What type(s) are those two oxen? They sure look good.

ParticipantTry Johnny’s Select Seeds johnnyseeds.com or Peaceful Valley Farm Supply groworganic.com to start. Johnny’s has a bi-colored open-pollinated sweet corn. PV has 3 types – including a popcorn variety.

ParticipantI talked to some friends on a mushroom forum I’m on, and they noted that: 1) It might not be appropriate to introduce these spores to an area that they aren’t native in. 2) That according to the link itself, that it doesn’t break down the bar oil, but just uses it as a medium to introduce the spores to hasten the deterioration of the stumps and debris…

ParticipantAww…Dave! Well, you’ve gotta do the necessaries first in life! I’m gonna still be here (of course) and I’ve told everybody that it’s planned for two days, so…
I was planning on butchering 3 or 4 rabbits around then, and have thought to make some rabbit stew, if people wanted to have a potluck the last night?
So, yeah, c’mon up and get yourself some fun, on Sunday!Robert MoonShadow
ParticipantThank you for the multiple efforts, though…it was great that you tried, anyways.
Robert MoonShadow
ParticipantAt least you’re consistent…3 for 3, now. LOL

ParticipantHmf. Tried the link, said it couldn’t be found…?

ParticipantIt’s been cooling down around here…finally! I’ve got some camp wood and 3 logs for snigging already – more today. I’m thinking that perhaps we should cancel the ‘flapjack race’, as there’s no perimeter fencing, and if any animal was to get away during the shenanigans, it could get off down the road or onto some rocky areas along the river. Safety first!
But there’ll be plenty to do, besides that. These logs aren’t all that big; about 7 1/2 ft. long, and maybe 8-10″ diameter – I loaded them in my horse trailer by myself – but they should give us an opportunity to hitch a critter to them and have some weight behind them, to see how it works. For myself, I’d like to see how to properly lay out and plow a field – the dead furrow/back furrow, etc. are something I need to see in order to grasp it better. I’ll measure off the area and post to give an idea of what we’ve got to play with…
Dave ~ I’m looking forward to meeting you and Lee!Robert MoonShadow
ParticipantWelcome aboard!
