ParticipantYeah, same boat here in Michigan. Show waist deep and more to come. Took two days to dig out from the last storm a week ago. This is the most snow we have had in 25 years. Last year I did not have to clean the driveway at all. This year it is a never ending battle.

ParticipantJohn, the more you tell of the way things are in Scotland the more it sound like the way things are in the US. Get big or get out. Get an off farm job because you can’t make a living farming. Land prices are so high now that if you wern’t rich to start with you can’t afford it. Any more if you wern’t born into a farm family there is no feasible way to get started. So much for the little guy needing to go to ag school.

ParticipantMitchmaine, I am with you. Leather all the way. I even use leather harnesses, Mostly because I picked them up cheap and I only have to lift them on to haflingers.

ParticipantI have to say I have never been a fan of bio, but I do like what you have. I might have to give it some consideration.

ParticipantJohn, I am glad to see there is some interest in horse farming on your side of the pond. Over here it is get big or get out. Unless of course you are Amish. I don’t know about some of the others on this board but I can say I get called “half Amish” quite regularly.

ParticipantI don’t know a thing about it other than I wish my James Oliver #11 had a coulter like that.

ParticipantRod, I like the videos. I am fortunate to have and Amish friend that is good with the horses and knows how to work with them. He very seldom uses a whip and when he does he doesn’t pound on the horse with it. Molly needs a lot of work to be as good as what your horse is but I think she will make it. She has a problem with the tongue being beside her. I don’t know what happened to her in the past but she is making progress. I am thinking of taking her to someone that can work her a few times a week for the summer. I probably won’t be able to safely handler her for a long time after my knee surgery.

ParticipantYou forgot number 15: I am not afraid of work. I can set down right beside it and it does not scare me.

ParticipantCheck out this one. It must be a lot nicer. Ebay# 320641450594. Note the sarcasm.

JohnLike the therapist told me with my first knee replacement “God made is better than man made”. I suppose that could hold true with energy production to.

ParticipantSo if I am understanding this correctly most agree we need the opposite of a global economy.

ParticipantWhen talking about buying local that will have some impact on fuel cost as the transportation will be less requiring less fuel. I too have been trying to buyas much locally made or made in USA if possible. Somewhere on another sight someone mentioned a company called PointerBrand that makes jeans and bibs in the US. I emailed then in December and asked if thier American made bibs are made in the US of American fabric or made in the US of foreign made fabric. I still have not recieved an answer. Go figure.

ParticipantJohn, thanks for that good news. I sure feel better now. It is nice to hear from someone with something positive once in awhile.

ParticipantGordon, I understand what you are saying about forcing people to buy local. That would probably happen, the problem is they would be buying mostly foreign made products locally.

ParticipantThe 3.19 a gallon or more wouldn’t be so bad if it would rise a little more gradually. It seems that it will take large increases in a short time. When you budget a certain amount for fuel it makes it hard to plan things. I agree if the fuel price was higher people wouldn’t travel as far which would be good. That would give a reason to plan trips better, go less frequently and accomplish more when you do go.
