Tim, are you really able to cut and bale grass hay all in the same day? I am about 45 miles east of Bay City. Not really that far from you. I have always grown alfalfa and it took forever to dry. This is my first year with the grass hay. It is a mixture of orchard grass and perennial rye grass.

They have been used some but are not is great shape yet. The mower has just been totally rebuilt by a fella that knows what he is doing(not me). I have seven acres of grass hay with few rocks. I may rake with them but not the same day. I would use the tractor to bale and haul to the barn. This is pretty much a solo operation. The grass is not real thick either(topic for another discussion).

So put in laymans terms, how many acres of hay can I cut with a No.7 5 foot cutter bar and a pair of average size haflingers?

For some reason I also enjoy speading manure. I always tell my Dad when we are out there that I must be nuts. For some reason he has never disagreed with me.

I give mine not much more than a handful. If they are working I give them a little more. They think they are really getting something but it does not amount to that much.

John, that could be. Maybe there is some sort of offset pole or shafts or something.

What is that pipe going across the front that sticks out in front of the cutter bar?

I am almost 40 and the bank account isn’t real full. I would be happy to stay home and raise produce with the horses and maybe a little tractor power mixed in. Unfortunatly the finances say not yet, but I am starting year three of my five year plan. Hopefully at the end of the five years I will have things in place so I can quit working out and farm full time. We will see.

Missy, that is how I plan on doing it too. My daughter wants to learn to ride so what better way than when I can have the lines in reach just in case.

I had three on the drill planting hay last fall but my daughter decided she wants to learn to ride. So my third horse is at school learning to be a riding horse. He should be home soon I hope. Putting the third on is like adding the turbo charger.

My daughter likes for her Dad to take the horses to school for show and tell. Last summer her kindergarden teacher (a gal I went to school with) suggested bringing the kids to our farm for a field trip instead. I got to thinking that maybe I could get started doing something thru the school and see if we could grow from that. I don’t know if it will work out or not but I think I am going to give it a try. I was thinking a tour of the place, a wagon ride, demonstrating how some equipment is used and maybe a short video if I could come up with one about 15 or 20 minutes long. I would appreciate any comment on the “plan”.

I didn’t notice at first but I like the engineering you put into the whip holder. That is pretty slick.
