Participantwe’ll try and think of something over here. we currently have a full barn and just enough hay to get us through, i hope. melissa, do you have their contact info handy. this is not what i had in mind when this all started, but he is a good soul and it’s important to find him the right place. jason, 589-4000

Participantwe have been doing a fall harvest supper the last 4 or so years with said goods, but haven’t advertised it as unlicensed and have only taken donations. a cover charge and an invitation to DOA would certainly change the mood of the celebration. jason

Participantthree towns here in maine just passed this ordinance
http://localfoodlocalrules.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/localfoodlocalrules-ordinance-template.pdf
and i think we’ll probably have a special town meeting this spring and vote it in here in montville to help keep the ball rolling. the implications… a statement and a step towards putting responsibility back in the hands of the consumer.

ParticipantMofga is planning on a large addition to it’s fairground facility in the next couple of years and the LIF group has taken on the task of providing as much of the material as possible. so far it seems everyone with a stake in the project (board of directors, staff, archetect, etc.) is on board. we just sent 33mbf of pine logs (mostly lowgradefrom this winter’s harvest) down to a local mill to be milled into 1x then it will be sent to another local mill to be dried and planner milled into sheathing, interior and exterior. what i’m curious to here from all of you is a way to go about the rest of the material aquistion. the LIF folks alone won’t be able to do it all in the proposed time frame of a fall 2011 ground breaking, but there are a lot of woods workers around and plenty of material. we were thinking of making a decision tree that would help us make our way through all the possibilities.
within 25 miles 50 miles 100 miles, etc;
mofga woodlot,mofga member woodlot, local consolidation yard, local mills; animal powered, mechanical operations;
worst first, “sustainable harvest”, mixed value, highgrade, clearcut;any thoughts or ideas on how to simplify or clearify something like this would be appreciated. cheers, jason

Participanta bridge isn’t a bad thing to be able to go over pulling a log or a scoot. maybe we can make it so there’s no chance of catching the edge and distroying it.. JG

Participantscott, it sounds like you might get up to NEAPFD this year. i’m planning on bringing carl over, so people can see what he’s like. cooler weather is here and his issues seem to mellow out. when the flies aren’t out.

Participantdon, love to talk more about this, i started a thread ” challenging Obsticle” under Sustainable Forestry.forum. we’re in the planning stages for the MOFGA LIF workshop and i think it would be a great hit to have something more serious than last year. if you want to help out we can hit NEAPFD with something tested.. cheers, jason
