😉 I was rather thinking of all your questions he might be able to answer….

Don’t wrap the lead around your hand, which is a good way to get a broken hand. DON’T get hurt, it is not worth it.

also a good way to get a nasty burn, when the rope slips but won’t come off! 😡
    do wear gloves!
I find it helpful to have a knot at my end of the lead…..

others cow always has the bigger udder

    translates here into:
the gras is always greener on the other side of the fence

better your own egg than another’s chicken

a sparrow in the hand is better than the pigeon on the roof

one mangy sheep makes the entire flock mangy

one rotten egg spoils the whole broth
    or
one ill weed mars a whole pot of pottage

when the cat’s not around, the mice are in charge

is the cat away, the mice will play

fun to compare the sayings and their meanings

    our cats have 7 lives
    british cats have 9 😀

    I’m sticking with my garlic!

please remember, that 120g (a forth of a pound?) fed to a regular size horse for a prolonged time daily causes anemia.
I’d stick with the rest of your treatment. 🙂
    Congrats

have you ever taken his temp? may be it cut his fever 🙂
    good luck!

in reply to: Commercial firewood harvesting #50939

In Virginia we lose about 13-15 people in the logging industry annually

just because it happened last week:
friend of mine cut firewood, “will be done in an hour”, luckily his wife stayed around to stack it……
cut off most of his lower leg ’til the bone stopped the chain; thought he didn’t need his safety pants and shoes especially since he was using only his small chain saw and it was warm that day……

If he was a cow I would suspect black leg, but horses apparently can’t get black leg.

    They can 🙁
still you may want to check with your vet because horses can have phlegmons in their legs caused by other bacteria, that are well treatable.

in reply to: Helping a friend train some mules #51835

I see the tractor as simple device to lead these animals. Just as I would lead them on a rope, to show them everything and let them get aquainted to strange situations. Above all the concept of not letting them connect the experience to fear, getting hurt, etc.
as mules are extremely smart, I suppose that helps them grasp the idea very quickly
and by day 3 this learning process has only begun…….there comes your time for relationship/trust building

in reply to: How long to leave a harness on a non-working donkey? #51648

    missing hair, sore spot, abrasions

came to thinking over night 😮
might be a completely different reason for what you see (nontheless the halter/harness has to come off ! ):
this being the end of winter, may be he has lice? you may want to check down at his skin for little critters about 1mm long, moving around in between the hair, making him itch……
