Seems like there’s plenty of aggregate around there that there should be no reason to carry it as a premix. Does that make sense? Still just as heavy.I’m not sure….. he doesn’t take on the projects, just contracts with USFS to pack materials in.

ModeratorYes Mr. Magoo, the Bridle chains that I use have U-bolts that attach to the roll, and don’t attach to the runner. The ones in the detailed pics are designed as Brad described to attach on top of the runner….. and yes a bolt can be run through the hole then they won’t fall off when loose.

ModeratorMark 3″ runners are not too heavy, but they are only necessary if you are pinning the bunks on in the traditional way with 1″ steel pins that reach all the way up through the runner and through the bunk. If you weld the 4″ pin onto the bunk plates then you won’t need the extra wood, and 2 1/2 ” is entirely adequate, especially with 4×4 shoes.
I use ash runner and red maple shoes.

ModeratorHere are the pics of my bridle chains. George, for the scoot, the U-bracket should ride in front on the front bunk, #1 so that you can reach around the front of the runner to hitch them (as Brad mentioned), and #2 so they will ride back to that pivot point where there is more weight behind the chain than in front….. you want the weight of the load behind the chain when going downhill, so that the weight has to push over the chain, as apposed to the weight dragging the chain.

ModeratorI would agree with you. You can see the off ox doesn’t like where the bow is hitting him. I also think that the draft on that yoke is too high. The staple should be down closer to 1/2-2/3 the depth of the bow. In the way this is set up the yoke slides back and the animals are pushing against the bows. If adjusted correctly the yoke should tip forward enough so that the bows are only holding the yoke on the neck, and the animals are pushing upward against the bottom of the yoke on the bearing surface. I’m not sure that the problem is all in the bows, but they are definitely too low, and the draft doesn’t help any.

ModeratorDawn, v-Bulletin was recommended to me. I had to purchase the template/license, and we have annual hosting and domain name fees, so it does have a cost. At this point we have a major sponsor, GMDHA, with a header ad, and we get private donations.
One way or the other the costs need to be covered…. I just didn’t like the nature of the ads on the “free” forums, so I decided this way we would have more control.
As I said we are several versions out-of-date, so in this new year we will work to upgrade, and perhaps we will have increased functionality as well.

ModeratorNot exactly what you were looking for, but this is one that came up on Google.
http://www.almanac.com/topics/weather/weather-forecasts/predicting-weatherAnother one http://www.rcn27.dial.pipex.com/cloudsrus/lore.html
I remember that article, but it seemed to me to have been related to Amish traditions, and used certain days throughout the year that would predict periods later in the year.
Sorry we can’t make it today…. too much going on here. Would love to make it down there sometime….. Have fun, and happy new year.

ModeratorThanks Dawn these are great suggestions. Unfortunately we are bound by some of the limitations of the v-Bulletin template we are using. For one reason and another we are operating a few editions behind the curve. As we develop the network we will be fixing that too. I’ll keep your suggestions in mind.
