No, because your sled is probably “boxed” in steel and held together by the frame on top where the bunk is. You should not have a problem if you just rebuild it the way it comes apart.

If it’s an Oliver, there should be an “Oliver ‘??” cast into the steel on the back of the moldboard, near the base of the handles. It may be covered with soil etc. As far as where to get parts, I’m still working on that myself. Hopefully others will fill us in.

We grow Garlic, Potatoes, and Beans for Farmers Market in the field I’m plowing in those pics. I’ve been growing there for twenty-two years without using a drop of petroleum, or anything but manure for fertilizer. Picked a lot of stone, cut a lot of brush, and even now, I’m still adding a few furrows as I can. You can see the blackberry roots in the last furrow. Tough ground, but we don’t have much land to choose from.

You may also be able to cut it from a log with a crook in it, which is where we usually get our sled runners.

Rod, it’s just that some of us have been there before with equipment like that. Go ahead and use it, and have fun. Just bare in mind that when equipment is rugged, and tuned up, and working well, things go well. When it’s not, they can go pretty seriously south.

I have used collar pads for years. Probably get two sets a year. I have had collars last 10 years or more, with good care.

John, after years of using a sulky plow this year I finally got an Oliver ’83, and started plowing my plots with it. An awesome feeling, plowing by hand, with comfortable horses. Nice pics. Incredible ground. I would kill to plow land like that.9219_1247975285921_1425617324_731985_1787140_n.jpg9219_1247975205919_1425617324_731983_4794078_n.jpg9219_1247975445925_1425617324_731988_1959685_n.jpg

Carl, I don’t know the suggested woodsmen’s handles, their names were Ian Snider, Ben Sumner and Ronnie Tucker. ……….

Jason, Ronnie has been added to the list for a couple of months now, but there are no users on this site by the other names. It does me no good to know who there truly are if I don’t know what they call themselves on DAP. You will have to find out their “User Names” before I can add them.

Rod you will want to replace that beam with some new wood. Something rugged like elm, oak, or ash.

Unless you plan to plow a garden that has deep stoneless loam, I would guess that plow won’t hold up for long in that condition. I tried a wooden beam plow several times years ago, and picked myself up off the evener at least twice.

Our Earthwise F&F is a Word Press Blog. Seems to be pretty easy to use. Feel free to contact Ed at VT Web Properties, our webmaster. He’s pretty knowledgeable and approachable.

Jason, I remember you offering names, but I never got their “User Names”, because even though I can see behind the wall, if people don’t use their real names as “user names”, I don’t know who they are.

If you can tell me what they go by then I can put hem on the list, otherwise they can’t see these posts.

Scott, I appreciate you facilitating this process, but I also think it will be valuable to have your perspective added to the discussion.
